Tanya Burke
Knitter

As a young girl of approximately 10 years of age, I was taught to knit and crochet by my grandmother Florence. I believe it was her way of giving some relief to a poor mother of a very hyperactive child.

While I was in college at Michigan State University in the 60’s, I was part of a group of young women who would study and knit… the clicking of the knitting needles seemed to help us concentrate on our books.

I have also been known to knit on long air flights helping to pass the time, while sitting in boring meetings (while keeping my mind on what was happening) and anywhere else I bring my needles. It has turned into a very useful and life-long hobby.
